-And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness Gen 1:26

God's original plan was for mankind to to reflect His nature. (Bear His image)

-Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.Psalm 106:20
 

-And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.Rom 1:23

However, since the fall of man from God's presence, man has been constantly trying reverse this order by making God in His own image and likeness i.e He conceives God as anything that conforms to his own agenda and desires.

As a result of this, God is now conceived as anything that promotes man's esteem and pleasure and makes him pursue his own desire (Gen 3:6) and anything that inhibits man from realizing his desires is labelled as satan or evil.
 

-Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in thewilderness:When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways:Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.Psalm 95:8-11

-Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:1 Pet 6-7

-Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.Heb 12:11

This attitude has resulted in man constantly seeking to try and force God into proving His power to do his (man's) own will (Seeing God's works) instead of allowing God to prove and try man in the furnace of affliction in order to regenerate man and give him the abillity to do His  (God's) works (will) :

E.g God is only God if he can provide us with anything we want. (James 4:3) The attitude of molding God after our own desires will only result in man's destruction because it will only lead God to angrily and reluctantly give us our evil fleshy desires but would send a leanness into our farmished souls

And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.Psalm 106:15

As Christians,we are to conform to God (Bear His image by submitting to His Spirit) God is not supposed to conform to our own image. As Christians, we are to do God's will (even when it is contrary to our own will Luke 22:42. God is not to do our own will.

As Christians, we must allow God to try us. We must not try God (Luke 4:12) We were created to bear God's glory and promote his Kingdom. God does not exist to bear our own glory and to promote to our own agenda and desires.

When we seek our own wills and desires, we assume the role of the Creator and equate ourselves with Him (Gen 3:5)  In order for God to be supreme in our lives, we must be ready to submit to His conception of good and evil. Like John, we must decrease so that God can increase
He must increase, but I must decrease.John 3:30
